Our plan to reach Net Zero by 2040
How Altriss ASC Training measures and cuts its greenhouse gas emissions. Version 2.0, published 15 October 2026.
1. Our commitment
Altriss ASC Training Ltd is a training provider based in Wrexham, with offices in Newtown and Brecon. We deliver classroom training, live and recorded webinars, City & Guilds qualifications and e-learning through our own Altriss Learning app and Altriss Hub, for health and social care and a growing range of other sectors across Wales, England and beyond. Altriss became a separate company in 2024, growing out of the training department of Phoenix Homecare & Support.
We are committed to reaching Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, ten years ahead of the UK and Welsh 2050 target, and to bringing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions to Net Zero by 2030, in step with the Welsh public sector's ambition for a Net Zero public sector by 2030. Many of our clients, including local authorities, have their own 2030 targets, and our supply chain emissions form part of theirs. We want to help them get there.
This plan follows the structure of Welsh Procurement Policy Note WPPN 006 (Decarbonisation through procurement: taking account of Carbon Reduction Plans) and the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard. It replaces version 1.0 (October 2025).
2. What this plan covers
- All UK operations of Altriss ASC Training Ltd: our offices in Wrexham (head office), Newtown and Brecon, and training delivered at client sites, hired venues and online.
- Scope 1: direct emissions from fuel we burn. We own no vehicles and our Wrexham office has no gas or oil heating.
- Scope 2: electricity used in our offices and training rooms, including electric storage heaters.
- Scope 3 (the five categories required by WPPN 006): business travel (trainers driving their own cars to sessions), employee commuting, waste from our operations, upstream transport and distribution (deliveries to us), and downstream transport and distribution (course materials we send out).
3. Baseline emissions
Baseline year: 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. This is our first full year of operating with our current offices and services, so all targets are measured against it.
| Emissions | Source | Baseline 2025/26 (tCO2e) |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 | No company vehicles, no gas or oil heating | 0.0 |
| Scope 2 | Purchased electricity, offices and training rooms (location-based) | 1.5 |
| Scope 3: business travel | Trainer journeys in personal vehicles (grey fleet) | 3.4 |
| Scope 3: employee commuting | Staff travel to and from our offices, including home working | 1.3 |
| Scope 3: waste | Office and training waste, recycled where possible | 0.2 |
| Scope 3: upstream transport | Deliveries of equipment, printed materials and supplies | 0.1 |
| Scope 3: downstream transport | Course materials and equipment we send out | <0.1 |
| Total | 6.5 |
How these figures were worked out: UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting, applied to our electricity use, trainer mileage and staff travel. Where a full year of meter readings or mileage claims was not available, we estimated from part-year records and typical use for an organisation of our size. We will publish fully measured 2025/26 figures, and restate the baseline if they differ, by 31 January 2027.
4. Current emissions
Current reporting year: 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Results will be published in the next update of this plan, by 30 June 2027, in the same format as the baseline table above so progress can be compared like for like.
5. Our targets
All targets are measured against the 2025/26 baseline of 6.5 tCO2e.
| By | What we will achieve | Total emissions |
|---|---|---|
| 31 Mar 2027 | All Altriss offices on a 100% renewable electricity tariff. Every face-to-face booking has its trainer mileage recorded in the Altriss Hub. | Measured and published |
| 31 Mar 2028 | 20% reduction, mainly from lower trainer mileage and renewable electricity. | 5.2 tCO2e |
| 31 Mar 2030 | Net Zero for Scope 1 and Scope 2. 50% reduction overall. | 3.3 tCO2e |
| 31 Mar 2035 | 70% reduction overall, with most essential business travel in electric or hybrid vehicles. | 2.0 tCO2e |
| 2040 | Net Zero across all reported emissions. Any small remainder balanced through verified UK removal schemes, only after every practical reduction has been made. | Net Zero |
6. What we have already done
- Our own digital platform. The Altriss Hub and Altriss Learning app replace paper registers, printed certificates and posted records. Certificates, training records, renewal reminders and booking documents are issued and stored digitally, and clients collect certificates from an online portal.
- E-learning and online delivery. Our app library of short video courses, and our live and recorded webinars, let learners train without anyone travelling. We offer an online option wherever the subject allows it.
- Local bases. Our offices in Newtown and Brecon mean trainers reach clients in Powys and Mid Wales with much shorter journeys than travelling from Wrexham.
- Fuller sessions, fewer trips. Classroom sessions run for up to 12 learners, and larger groups are planned as back-to-back sessions on the same visit.
- Less waste from course kits. Our Hub works out course kit and handouts by the number of learners booked, and records what was actually used, so unused materials go back into stock rather than in the bin.
- Recycling. We separate paper, card, plastics, glass, metal and food waste in line with the Waste Separation Requirements (Wales) Regulations 2023.
7. What we will do next
Travel (our largest source)
- Record trainer mileage for every face-to-face session in the Altriss Hub booking system and use it to calculate our travel emissions each year.
- Allocate trainers from the nearest Altriss office and group sessions in the same area into the same journey.
- Offer live online delivery as an option on every course where the learning outcomes allow it.
- Encourage car sharing between trainers travelling to the same area, and public transport where practical.
- When staff replace vehicles used for work, support the choice of electric or hybrid, and review an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme by 2028.
Energy
- Switch all offices to a 100% renewable electricity tariff by 31 March 2027, or ask landlords to do so where they hold the contract.
- LED lighting in all Altriss-controlled spaces, timers on storage heaters, and equipment switched off at the end of each day.
- Prefer training venues that use renewable energy or hold an environmental accreditation.
Waste and purchasing
- Print handouts only when a course needs them, using recycled paper, and offer digital workbooks as standard.
- Buy from local and Welsh suppliers where practical, and ask our main suppliers about their own carbon reduction plans.
- Repair and reuse training equipment (for example first aid manikins) before replacing it, and recycle it responsibly at end of life.
Digital
- Use cloud providers that publish their energy and emissions performance, and remove files and videos we no longer need.
- Compress course videos so learners use less data when streaming.
People
- All Altriss staff complete carbon awareness training, and this plan is covered in every staff induction.
- Sustainability is a standing item at our quarterly management meetings.
8. How we will measure and report
- Electricity from meter readings and bills for each office.
- Business travel from the mileage recorded against each booking in the Altriss Hub and from staff mileage claims.
- Commuting from an annual staff travel survey.
- Emissions calculated with the latest UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting.
- This plan is reviewed and republished every year, by 30 June, on our website.
9. Wales and the Well-being of Future Generations Act
This plan supports the goals of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, in particular a prosperous, resilient and globally responsible Wales, and follows its five ways of working: long-term thinking, prevention, integration, collaboration and involving our staff and clients.
10. Declaration and sign-off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in line with WPPN 006 and the associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in line with the published reporting standard and the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, using the appropriate UK Government Conversion Factors for Company Reporting. Scope 1, Scope 2 and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in line with the GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
This plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors.
